BILL FOSTER SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Bill Foster Scholarship Program is funded by M.E.V.E.D.A and is administered by its board of directors, and can be applied for by any qualified Michigan resident currently serving in the fire and emergency service sector or their spouse, or child.
Bill Foster is a fire apparatus innovator and legend in - one of the nation's most highly accomplished and respected safety leaders.
His professional accomplishments include: Co-founder of Spartan Motors, and has served on the board of directors since 1978. A firefighter with more than 30 years of experience, he also served as a designer draftsman for Diamond Reo Trucks, Inc. Above and beyond this he is a true friend and mentor to many of us in the fire safety industry.

Scholarship Award:
The $500 educational scholarship will be offered to the most
qualified Michigan resident, spouse, or child of anyone currently
serving in a fire or emergency service capacity. This will also
include the spouse or children of any Fallen Hero listed
on the Michigan Fireman's Memorial wall in Roscommon,
Michigan.
Note: If the scholarship applicant's qualifying family member is deceased, but the
department has not put the name on the wall, there shall be wavier extended to cover
that situation.
The award of $500 will be sent directly to the recipient's choice
of educational institution (i.e., community college, four year
college, university, technical school, etc.). If the awardee
withdraws from the academic/training program with a tuition
refund, M.E.V.E.D.A will receive the refund.
This scholarship may be renewable. Scholarship recipients from
previous years are eligible to reapply.
Requirements:
All applicants must:
1. Be enrolled, or plan to be enrolled, for full-time study in an
accredited school (community, college, four year college,
university, technical, etc.) with a formal curriculum leading to a
certificate, license, or degree and planning on attending school
no later than the next academic school year.
2. Be a United States citizen.
3. Be a permanent legal resident of Michigan.
Selection Criteria:
Selection will be based on the applicant's Scholarship Entry
Form and Essay; interest in advancing his/her career.
Considerations will include extra-curricular activities;
recommendations of high school/college/university/technical
school faculty; and academic record. Financial need will also be
considered. The top five (5) candidates may be called for an
interview. The successful candidate will be notified by letter
and/or telephone.

1. Bill Foster Scholarship Form with a 250 word essay, as
described on the entry form.
2. Certified copy of applicant's high school, college, or technical
school transcript of grades.
3. Letters of recommendation from two faculty members of the
applicant's high school, college, university, or technical school.
4. 2 References from the people who know you well.
Application and supporting documents must be received by Friday, June 1, 2012.
